Laptops rarely die suddenly. They warn you — fans that spin hard while idle, a chassis too hot to rest a wrist on, a battery that drops from 40% to nothing in a minute.
Clicking or grinding from a mechanical drive is the most urgent signal in this list. If you hear it, stop working and back up immediately; the window between first noise and total failure is often days.
Random restarts under load usually point to thermal throttling or a failing power adapter, both cheap to fix early and expensive to ignore. Dust-packed heatsinks are the single most common cause we open up.
Screen flicker that changes when you move the lid is a cable or hinge problem, not a panel problem, and it is one of our fastest repairs.
Finally, watch for ports that need wiggling. A loose charging port is a solder joint under stress, and left alone it can take the board with it.
